Soccer

First, the big news. Deke peed in the potty!!!! Yeah!!! Here's hoping that was the first of many. I cannot wait to be diaper free!

And, here's the soccer pro. We had soccer for the first time today. Ty loved it and can't wait for next week. We were a little bummed that Ty didn't get to be on Connor's team. That would have made it so much more special. That bottom picture is courtesy of Kari Yearous. She took an awesome shot of Ty yesterday at her house and I just had to post it.

I'm finally on the mend. I was seriously under the weather all week last week, but I think I'm seeing the tail end of it now. Now, if I could just get rid of the cough, we'd be perfect.

Hair Cut!

Ty got his haircut this weekend. He gets such a fro when it starts growing out. I just can't stand it. So I took him to Fantastic Sam's and he was silent and looked so serious (much like in the above picture) that I think the stylist thought that I must be one mean mommie to have a kid that wouldn't talk or crack a smile. It was so unlike him. We then made a trip to Wal-Mart where he was so much fun. He just talked and talked and cracked me up throughout the whole shopping trip. Acting more like the Ty I know and the one you see in the bottom picture. I am so blessed to have such a super duper kid.

What happens when they get quiet?

I discovered that answer today. Twice. Yes, you would think I'd learn my lesson the first time, but I'm apparently a slow learner. The stickers happened earlier this morning while I was making my coffee. You know its going to be one of those days when you haven't even made the coffee and they are into trouble. They were so proud of having these stickers all over them. Ty thought it made them superheros. Later on after breakfast, but still fairly early, they disappeared into Ty's room and a few minutes later, Deke comes out showing off his belly. He still had the marker in his hand which I took away and threw away. Ty wasn't too far behind but he knew enough not to flash his belly until he ascertained how I was going to respond to Deacon. He kept quiet and I don't think I would have ever known about his belly if I hadn't caught the guilty look. I made him show me his belly and sure enough he had marked his up as well. At least it was a washable marker and it wasn't on my walls, right? And I can't get too mad when the night before Joel used a marker to mark up Deacon. How is he supposed to learn when his Daddy's doing it?

Deke still has that nasty cough so he had to stay home while I took Ty to the lake for a bike ride. We biked all around the small lake. It was a bit chilly, but we had fun. On the way there, I thought I would see if Ty would know which way to go if I told him to move left or to move right. I didn't want to have any accidents while out there and some of those other bikers and rollerbladers are moving fast. I was trying to think of a way for him to understand this and thought why not just ask him if he knows it. Sure enough, the boy knows his right from his left. I was shocked. When I asked him where he learned this, he told me that he just taught himself. At any rate, he did very good on the trail when I would tell him to move over to his right, he always moved in the right direction.

Rocker

Deke has a really bad cough, but other than that no temperture and he's playing like normal. We didn't want to expose him to other kids so we kept him home yesterday as a precaution. I took Ty to open gym night last night and he had a blast running around and playing with Connor. Joel stayed home with Deke and decided to give him a tatoo. According to Joel, he had marked up his whole body with a marker and so he decided to do just a little more.

Temper Tantrum

He is so different from Ty. His tempers are fearsome to behold. I'm not even sure why he was mad. I think it was because he couldn't make both work at the same time. He is going to be the kid that embarasses me in the store. I'm trying to prepare myself now for it.

Yesterday was another beautiful day and we went to the park. Deke has discovered the joy of sliding and was heading to the tallest slide he could find. Fortunately Ty would go with him and hold him as he slid down. I really wished I would have taken my camera because it was really cute.

I had the other four cavaties filled today. Not as bad this time since the shots were in the upper jaw. Apparently, the lower jaw is way worse and I can vouch for that. I took a book on CD today and it made the time fly. It was over before I knew it.

Hooray for Spring!

Amazing, beautiful day today! I have no idea what the temp got to, maybe mid-50's or higher, but I do know that I was outside without a jacket for most of the day and I could feel the sun beating down on my face. Oh, how I've missed that sun. There is nothing quite like going through a cold, bitter winter to make you really appreciate Spring! We're supposed to continue with the nice weather for the rest of this week. The boys really enjoyed it. Ty was outside from about 12:00-5:30. He played and helped Dad do some yard work. We then went on a bike ride to the park and met up with Jakob and Kari there. Deke was outside before his nap, but I took him in at 12:30 for his nap. He slept until 3:00 which is a really long nap for him. I got to use the fact that he was sleeping as an excuse to sit right beside his window and read my book outside, which kept me from doing any of the yard work. Truly a great day!

On Friday, Joel and I took a vacation day and spent some quality time together. He really spoiled me that day. He let me sleep in while he took the kids to school. I got to sleep in till 9:30. That's just crazy. He then made me a delicious breakfast of eggs and bacon and he even bough orange juice to go with the meal. We took a nice walk around the lake and when we got back, he made me an even better lunch of Alfredo Primerva followed by Bananas Foster. Best desert I've ever had (and that include resturant deserts) We got a nap in the afternoon and then went and got the kids. What a fabulous day. I'm truly spoiled.

A terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

I'll explain the title in a minute. The snow is melting! So that is one bright side to this day. It's been rainy now for the past three days, but it's getting warmer so I won't complain too much about that. This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago when there was still a lot of snow on the ground.
Today I made a co-worker mad and that in turn has made me sad. She is a fabulous designer and turns a lot of my ideas into works of art. But she got upset with me today when I suggested we make a change to a website we are working on. We've just started this. Nothing is completely concrete and yet she is resistant to changing a few things that might make it better. I just really feel we are too text heavy on this site and need to use more graphics. The original was my idea anyway so I'm not being critical of what she's done. I'm being critical of what I told her to do. And now I want to fix my mistakes before we get too much further into this project. I understand that she's very busy and I hate arguing with anybody much less somebody I respect and like, but it is still in the early stages and now would be the time to make changes. I feel marginally better now that I got that off my chest. Let's hope tomorrow is better (and I get my way with little fuss :).

The Clean Freak

Deacon is obsessed with cleaning. He always has the broom, swiffer, or vacuum and sometimes more than one in his hand "sweeping" my floors. The vacuum is really sucky and I need to find another one that works better because he gets very mad at this one. He also loves to dust and do the dishes. Hopefully he keeps this interest up when he can actually help. Joel has to take him to another room of the house when I'm trying to really sweep as he keeps getting in the way "trying" to help. Ty then thinks he should "help" too and I'm unable to get anything done. (That's a good excuse for why I never sweep and mop, right?)

It's a four day work week for me this week. Joel has a super special day planned for us on Friday. I'm so excited!

A walk down memory lane

Ty got to watch Tarazan last night and I began telling him about when my brother and I would swing from vines in the Back Forty pretending to be Tarazan. This then led to many more stories about what Mommy did when she was little. I forgot how much fun I had growing up. I caught snapping turtles while fishing and walked over snakes by accident, swung from vines and built log bridges. What a fun childhood I had. This then led to Joel telling Ty about when a snake bit him. (It was just a tiny scratch, but still a "snake bite") Ty was riveted. I can hardly wait to take him back to Texas and show him where all these adventures happened.

A beautiful Saturday and we took the boys to the park and for a walk. Ty got to ride his bike and he's doing so well with it. I can't believe how fast he's growing up. He bumped his head coming down the slide and now has a nasty bruise. I started my garden today. Tomatoes, green peppers, and strawberries are all planted and in the breezway. Let's hope they do well. Joel thinks I'll be a failure at this and I really want to prove him wrong.
